Mom's First Trip to Wellington

I just received the phone call that meant that Mom and Chuck made it all the way back to Hamilton safe and sound. We had such a wonderful weekend with them here. They were able to watch the Skyrockets win big over Claude on Friday night and watch the 2011 seniors take their home field for the last time. It was very emotional for many of the parents and players and reminded me of my last days as a Hamilton Bulldog. I took tons of pictures Friday for the parents and players and even caught one of Mom and Chuck! I fixed brauts for the game Friday night and they were wonderful!! Mom and Chuck perched up in the back of the truck and had a great view away from the crowd. After the big win on Friday, I got up and made muffins and chilled out until everyone was up and ready for the day. We spent the better part of the afternoon seeing the sights and cooking. They were able to see the sights of Wellington which took a little over two hours due to a long talk with some locals about the first brick black school in the district that is now rundown. It was amazing to learn such a history about one individual structure in this town. There is no telling how many more it has to offer. After we got back to the house we spent the rest of the evening cooking our pre-thanksgiving dinner. We had jalapeno shooters, deviled eggs, homemade rolls, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, chicken and dressing, gravy, pumpkin pie, and peach cobbler all made from scratch. We were able to bring out all our serving dishes and use the leaf in the table. It was awesome. We had friends over Saturday night and watched the UFC fight which turned out to be a doozy. Sunday morning brought cinnamon rolls and the event I looked most forward to... "Watson's First Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest."  Adam and I agreed to start traditions the first year we were married and this is one that I have really been looking forward to. This year's theme was Skyrocket pumpkins.  Mom and Chuck were troopers and we spent almost 2 hours meticulously carving our pumpkins. The results are not yet in (an outside voter... My great-grandmother... is being brought in as the un-biased judge) but they turned out great. All in all it was a wonderful weekend and I was very sad to see them go. Until nextime!

Mom made this beautiful star for us as a housewarming gift.  It is made out of old boots and a piece of her own cowhide rug.  She is amazing!

Update: Chuck was the grand prize winner according to the super serious judge we assigned out of the Seattle, WA region.  I think she is due for a trip to the eye doctor.  Congratulations Chuck!  Your grand prize is heading your direction shortly!
