Cripple Creek= Two Miles Closer to Heaven!

So I am just a little bit behind on blogging, but since my to-do list this morning consisted of "clean out the vacuum filter",  I figured it was a good time to sit down and write.  Adam is river-walking it up in San Antonio this week for coaching school so I finally have some free time.  During our first week off for summer vacation, Adam and I spent a few days cleaning out the house for the arrival of my things a few weeks later.  After this dreadful task was done, we ventured off to Cripple Creek, Colorado to spend a few nights in the cool mountain air (wish we would've waited until now cause it's really hot here!)  I was able to go to Cripple Creek last year with my family and I couldn't wait to show Adam some of the great sights.  After a short 8 hour drive (love the 5 hour head-start from Wellington) we arrived in the old town of Cripple Creek.  After oggling the casinos, Adam noticed the wandering donkeys.  I didn't get to see them last year so I was surprised to get so lucky so soon.  We drove out to the Lost Burro campground and paid our whopping 60 bucks for ice, wood, and several nights stay.  (Yes I love camping.  I hate spending a bunch of money on a hotel room overlooking the freeway.)  We set up camp quickly and took in the breathtaking views.  Site #1 is located right in the entrance to camp and is higher off the ground than the rest of the sites.  It's also my dad's favorite so I wanted to make him proud.

From the campground we hit a few casinos, had supper and came back to camp to enjoy an awesome night of roasting marshmallows and conversing about the future.

Over the next few days, we hurried through the many sights to see including a treacherous drive up Pikes Peak and a fun-filled day of gaming in Manitou Springs.  When I say gaming, I do not mean gambling.  I mean skeet ball and air hokey on old school machines.  It was awesome!!  I got to make the drive up the mountain so that Adam could work the gears and brakes on the way down.  I was very thankful for the reprieve to enjoy the sights.

All in all we had a great time and really enjoyed our first vacation alone and as a married couple.  We played silly games and laughed til our sides hurt. Adam whooped me at gin, learned how to play jenga and speed, and really laid down the law on spades.
Can't wait til next summer!!!
