In contrast to the most devastating part in our lives so far, the opposite side of our dark was the highlight of our life. Adam and I were married on January 1st, 2010. This is equally a lengthy story, but all the more important to us.
Adam and I were lucky to have my mom and dad contribute everything to our big day. The months of wedding planning consisted for 73 trips too-many to Hobby Lobby and a zillion minutes too-many on the phone with my mom. Coming down to the final two weeks, Adam was so graciously blessed with the most stressed out bride known to man. Now, I am not a control-freak... I like to call myself an overly obsessive planner. I like to be sure of every little detail. That being said, if I wasn't it would have been a disaster. See, Adam and I are the perfect balance in this aspect. He could care less if the small things get done, and I only care about the little things. It seems to work out very well when we go anywhere. I remember his toothbrush, but he actually remembers to put the suitcase in the car. Works well for us! Back to the story... the weeks leading up to the wedding were hectic due to some really crummy weather that made this bride a little hesitant to pull off an outside wedding and reception. In order to stay on budget, we had selected Miss Nellie's Pretty Place in Cameron Park. It is a beautiful outside fountain/amphitheater that wouldn't cost us a dime. To follow that, we had selected to have a cake and punch reception at my own home in Hewitt. When it snows in Texas and shuts down the roads, you kind of panic about an outside wedding. At dinner one evening, the Monday before the wedding, my amazing brother and sister-in-law informed me that they were moving my wedding. They understood how stressed out I was and they wanted to pick up any expenses associated with it. In the end, my brother confessed that he just wanted to stay warm for his own good. We ended up moving the wedding two days before the wedding to the Carleen Bright Arboretum in Woodway, TX. My dad picked up the tab and Adam was so lucky in getting to make about 25 more trips to Hobby Lobby to pick up extra things for the location change. After all the unexpected mishaps, the weather the day of was AMAZING. We were given the gift of having almost every single one of the 75 guests at our wedding. In the end, we were able to say "I do", eat Wal-Mart wedding cake, have the most talented photographer shoot the most incredible pictures, and create a day with our family and friends that we will cherish for the rest of our lives!
My top 10 wedding things to be thankful in no particular order after #1:
1. Adam-my amazing partner for life
2. Hobby Lobby-I hate/love our relationship. I couldn't have done it without you.
3. My family- Mom the planner, Dad the part financier, Dustin the hairstylist, Dennis the guitar player and the man who didn't want to be cold (I couldn't have had the most beautiful wedding ever without your nudge.)
4. All the family that came from all over- We had people from Dallas, LA, Seattle, Wellington, etc. at the wedding. A lot of people came a long ways and we are VERY thankful for that.
5. Good health- Adam's grandfather Acy had not been feeling well leading up to the big day. We are so unbelieveably thankful that he was able to make it there for us.
6. Our friends- Adam and I are blessed with amazing friends. Not only did we spend the evening before ringing in the New Year with these guys, they were there for us in every way. The boys decorated, my girlfriends dipped 12 dozen chocolate covered strawberries, and at the end of the day, we were gifted with an awesome honeymoon suite all jazzed up with rose petals and balloons. They are such a blessing!
7. Pappa's Bros. Steakhouse- Adam and I agreed to no honeymoon, but promised to take ourselves out for a treat the day after the wedding. Needless to say, hands down the most wonderful food and experience EVER!
8. Good weather- Finally on the day of the wedding we were granted good weather. It was the perfect temperature and very little wind. It couldn't have been better.
9. Dr. Horne- He was so gracious to do our ceremony exactly the way we wanted!
10. Lexi- No matter how many kids Adam and I are blessed with in our many years together, she is the only one that was at our wedding. We are very thankful that she was with Mommy and Daddy on our very special day!
